CSR
Committed to what matters
At VBK, taking responsibility is simply part of how we work. For our clients, for society and for the world around us. Looking ahead only has value if you also consider the impact you make.
Our CSR policy is built around three pillars: social responsibility, local and social engagement, and sustainable business practices. Together, they guide how we operate and where we focus our efforts.
Social responsibility
We apply our legal expertise where it can make a real difference. Since 2018, we have partnered with Pro Bono Connect, a platform that connects social organisations and law firms around legal issues with a social or human rights impact.
Through this collaboration, we support organisations that serve the public interest but do not always have access to legal expertise. In doing so, we help improve access to justice in a way that is practical, accessible and meaningful.
Local and social engagement
Our engagement starts close to home. We create opportunities for people who face barriers to the labour market, including through our collaboration with UW.
At the same time, we invest in local initiatives. We participate in the Municipality of Utrecht’s social return programme and work with social enterprises and sheltered workshops. A good example is our long-standing partnership with Reinaerde, which has been preparing our Christmas hampers for many years.
We also work closely with Utrecht University. Together, we established the Utrecht Law Clinic, where law students gain hands-on experience while supporting start-ups and scale-ups in the region with legal advice and litigation support. This is always done under the supervision of university lecturers and our own legal professionals.
Sustainable business practices
EcoVadis certification
In 2025, VBK was awarded EcoVadis certification. This recognises the steps we are taking to embed sustainability and responsibility in our organisation.
EcoVadis assesses organisations on themes such as the environment, ethics, labour rights and sustainable procurement. It confirms that we combine legal expertise with a strong sense of responsibility.
We continue to build on this by reducing our environmental footprint, promoting diversity and inclusion, and making conscious choices in how we operate.
Mobility
We actively encourage sustainable travel. Our people are supported in using public transport, cycling or driving electric vehicles.
At the same time, our digital workplace enables flexible working, making it easier to work from home and to travel outside peak hours.
