Biography

Merle de Vries has been working as a lawyer at VBK since November 2025, as part of the Banking & Finance team. 

Merle has been a lawyer since 2018. Before joining VBK, Merle worked at NautaDutilh as a lawyer specialising in financial regulatory law and financial dispute resolution.   

Merle specialises in financial litigation and regulatory law. She advises and litigates on matters such as the duty of care of banks, market access, scoping and insurance policies. Merle works primarily for financial institutions such as banks, insurers and payment institutions.

Thanks to various secondments with clients, Merle is able to work in a client-oriented manner and tailor her communication effectively.

About Merle 

Merle completed her Master's degree in Private Law, specialising in Liability Law, at Utrecht University in 2016. In 2018, she completed her Master's degree in Business & Law, specialising in International Business, also at Utrecht University. During her studies, Merle spent a semester studying at the University of Queensland, Australia. 

In 2021, Merle successfully completed Law Firm School.
