In Tijdschrift voor Vergoeding Personenschade (TVP) 2017, volume 4, Kirsten Maes wrote the article "About the search for and limits of secondary liability after the shooting incident in Alphen aan den Rijn".

On 4 June 2017, the District Court of The Hague ruled on the question of whether Tristan van der V.'s parents are liable for the consequences of the shooting incident in Alphen aan den Rijn. More in particular this concerned the question of whether the parents should have informed the relevant authorities about their son's mental condition instead of allowing a dangerous situation to continue. This contribution analyses the court's ruling - also in light of its previous ruling on the liability of the police force in the same shooting incident - paying attention to the parents' secondary duty of care under civil law.

The article is part of Kirsten's doctoral degree on secondary liability of private parties.
